206: Trust

I have sought
but have not found
a reason to retreat
to higher ground.

I fear the delusion
of wishful thinking
and question my motives
for enjoying and believing.

How do I trust

that four letter word
after a life of pain
have I found the reverse?

I question this vine
that binds us together
are you strong enough
to withstand all weather?

Then day by day
I see bright new shoots
and feel the earth move
as it puts out more roots.

Blossoms adorn it
soon the flowers will set
a beautiful crop
of the sweetest fruit yet.

Have you ever swayed
On the edge of a cliff?
Felt the breeze
Begin to lift
Felt the adrenaline
In your heart
And wondered
If you could fly
What it would feel like
To be carried on the air
To rise with the thermals
And soar without cares.

In my dreams
I swooped and rose
With wings on my back
And the wind in my toes
I revelled in the freedom
Not tied to the earth
Tested my limits
And achieved a new first.

Every time fear

Clutches at my heart
My wings unfurl
Eager to start
My body remembers
What my head
Doesn’t know
Amazing things happen
When you trust and let go.

116: Stuck In The Headlights

It’s insidious
This thing inside
If I’d left it there
Hope would have died;

Withered away
By fretting and worry
Feverish thoughts
Turning wheels in a hurry.

But I tracked you down
I sought you out
Now I know
What this is all about.

I trusted my emotions
For they are true
I listened to them
And they led me to you.

I uncovered the fear
Deep inside
Attached to the knowledge
That you were trying to hide.

You’re running scared
I can feel it, I know
You feel unprepared
Stuck in the headlights, aglow.

Do you run towards me
And face your fears
Or disappear into the shadows
No longer here.

So let’s cut the lights

While we adjust to the new
And try and work out
If there’s a me and you.

90: Look Into My Eyes

Can you look me in the eye?
If you can’t, I’ll say goodbye.
Can you hold, my gaze a while?
Let me see you, without guile.

Eyes tell me, about your soul
They let me know, if you are whole.
If in you, I am to trust
I need to see them, that’s a must.

Eyes have been my greatest fear
When full of hate and oh so near.
Now they are my greatest asset
Guiding me, displaying your facets.

In all your moods I want to know
What is revealed by your globes.
If there’s love your eyes will shine
If there’s hate then you’re not mine.
